This is the story of Maya Lin, a young woman who at the age of 21 and found out that her design for the Vietman War Memorial was accepted! Maya's father Henry Lin was a talented artist who had come to the United States in 1940 after the communist had taken over China. Maya's mother Julia Chang was smuggled out of China as a child and she became a profesor of Asian and English Literature. Her parents met at Ohio University and had 2 children a boy name Tan and Maya. Maya was born on 5th of October in 1959. This book follows her life from a youngster to 2002.Maya's design for the Vietnam War Memorial was met with people who thought because she was Asian she should not be allowed to design an American Monument. The wall is the most popular memorial in the United States. During the building Maya fought with architects about her design and that her opinion did not count. After the wall memorial she vowed never to make another monument... but thankfully she changed her mind and has built many wonderful monuments such as Civil Rights monument table and wall, Peach Chapel at Juniata College in Pennsylvania, Topo in Charlotte North Carolina, Women's Table at Yale University, Groundswell at the Wexner Museum of Art on the grounds of Ohio State University, Ecliptic Circle and park in Grand Rapids Michigan, Winter Garden in Minneapolis Minnesota, Wave Field University of Michigan and also in 2000 became an author of a book called Boundaries.Maya as a child watched very little tv, but like to read fantasies like the Hobbit, she liked to do her homework and she liked to created make-believe villages. I did not know that Maya actually designed the wall to make people cry. When I went to the wall I did write in one of my journals that I felt that "the Wall" reflected life, so Maya was able to make me feel and experience everything she had designed the wall to be as a teen.Contents: each title has 2 pages with photos.
