I'm happy with this book so far, but with a slow learning process and 600 pages (!) I can really only evaluate the earlier stages of learning/relearning. Even the table of contents is 15 pages long! It doesn't simply start with, say, an introduction to the keyboard, but rather with the pros and cons of different styles of pianos, including a range of electronic keyboards,posture, etc.At Chapter 5, "Getting Comfy at the Keyboard," you're finally getting into even the beginning of real instructions, and slowly at that. Book II, page 97, Understanding Theory and the Language of Music, is where I started really paying attention, brushing up on my rudimentary and rusty music-reading skills. That said, it's much harder to correct bad practices than it is to learn them properly initially, and the earlier parts are valuable in that regard.There's a lot to learn of course - a lot! - but I find the pace and depth to be appropriate. This book gets me deeper into the complexities of things than I have before. The organization and the process laid out is thorough and methodical, and while it may be "for dummies" it doesn't shortcut the learning process so far as I can tell. Sorry, but just because the title includes the word "Dummies" doesn't mean there's an alternate and easy approach to learning; be prepared for real study!
This book has taught me the basics and much more. With a good interactive program and this book there is no need for expensive piano lessons. I have saved myself well over $1.000 in piano lessons.
I'm a big fan of the "DUMMIES" series of books. They haven failed me yet. This is a good book to buy if your into keyboarding.
This looks as if it might be just for beginners, but it has sections that even more advanced pianists and keyboard players can use. I am a pianist at the high intermediate level, and I found much here that is useful: finger exercise (we all need them), basic theory (which I never got in my lessons) and a glossary of terms. I also play keyboard, and there is excellent material for that instrument. I would recommend this for anyone's personal library and especially for music teachers.
Goes into a lot of detail on many of the major subjects regarding sound, music and the piano. Encourages learning throughout. Love this series/brand because it is truly misnamed.
The product is great, the fact that I am not allowed to give it to anyone is not and Amazon need to sort this out. If you buy a book you can give it to whoever you want, I bought this for my Kindle so it becomes my property and I should therefore by right be able to give it to whoever I wish.I am not a library service that will lend the books, which I own.Something has gone seriously wrong at Amazon !!!!
This doesn't cover really in depth chords and other things but there is MORE than enough info u this book. Great product has really helped me get a grip on theory and has increased my knowledge of piano significantly.
