OK, I am going to read any book about cats - I do not even have the excuse of having a kid to read it to!It is a thoroughly enjoyable little book with a great message: "find the value in what you have and appreciate what you have for what it is"Charming drawings and flowing dialogue makes this an excellent book for any kid - from 3 to 103!
I enjoyed this children’s story about Annabelle and her desire for a dog. When her mother says no, she already has a cat, she struggles trying to make Pepper behave as a dog. It was cute to see how well the typical cat behaviors were captured – and contrasted with dog behavior – within the story. Personally, I think the if the illustrations were done by a professional illustrator the book would be even better, but I give huge kudos to this author for being capable of writing and illustrating her own book.
I love the message of the book and its simple, easy to follow picture illustrations. You should accept different situations and people for what they are. After all, you can only be who you are. That applies to everyone. A cat can only be a cat. What more can I say. I highly recommend this book.
What an adorable book! I can see this happening in real life, which is what makes it so fun to read. The text and illustrations capture perfectly the differences in behavior between a cat and a dog. This little girl learned a lesson, and I think parents will enjoy reading this fun little book to children to teach them the same.
This book brought back fond memories of my mother's cat, Domino. Although my sons are older, I know that they would have loved this book as young children. The story line was simple and accurate (the cat behaviors were so on point). The illustrations also brought the words to life. It was a fun read with a big lesson that the adult reading to the child will get. And that lesson is: be grateful for the things/someones you have as opposed to pining over what you do not have. Great book!
The thing I love about both of Liz Lim's books are they have a wonderful message delivered in a way that children will love and relate to. I feel good purchasing these books for my grandkids and friends children because they love them and learn a wonderful life lesson at the same time. Being aware of what we are teaching our children isn't always easy in our society, so finding something that has good lessons while entertaining is important to me. Looking forward to more of her books to come.

When her mom her won’t let her get a dog of her own, Annabelle decides to convince her cat, Pepper, to be a dog with rather disappointing results.Beautiful full-page crayon drawings showcase her attempts to teach Pepper tricks. It is a quick fun read that will remind young kids that no matter how grand what they want is, what they have is also pretty great.
My daughter read this new book by Liz Lim and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is an interesting story with humor, and provides some hidden wisdom. You definitely can engage in a good discussion with your little one to explore that hidden wisdom. Liz did an excellent job at creating her own illustrations. The illustrations kept my daughter engaged and exciter to turn the pages. I'd like to recommend this book for bedtime reading. It will not disappoint. Enjoy!!
